Mandeville Police are preparing for as many as 5,000 fans for the Saints' practice session tonight at Mandeville High School.
The team plans to hold a two-hour workout, free and open to the public, from 7pm to 9pm, at Sid Theriot Stadium. The stadium will open at 5pm.
Mandeville Mayor Donald Villere says the event has created quite a "buzz" in the city.
"When the Saints come over here and they practice, I think everyone feels a greater sense of pride, a greater sense of connection to the Saints. I think people are really excited about the opportunity to have them over here in St. Tammany," Villere said.
With a large crowd expected, parking will be limited. Officials say you can park on campus as early as 3:30pm, after school lets out.
Parking is prohibited on the median of the West Causeway Approach. Anyone parked illegally will be towed.
Tailgating is not allowed on school property, and coolers are not allowed inside the stadium. State law prohibits the use or possession of alcohol on school grounds.
Mandeville Police Chief Rick Richard is asking the public to follow the law and work with the Saints, school and city officials to ensure this is a safe and enjoyable event.
