When asked if he should step down as Jefferson Parish president while running for lieutenant governor, John Young told 99.5 WRNO Wednesday morning, "Absolutely not."
"I'm going to continue to my job. That's my main priority. That's why I announced this far out," Young told Gerry V.
"Other elected officials have run for other offices, that's never been an issue. I don't think it should be an issue and I'm not going to let that affect my job performance as Jefferson Parish president - never have, never will."
Young joins a 2015 field that already includes Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nunguesser, Baton Rouge Mayor "Kip" Holden, and state Sen. Elbert Guillory of Opelousas.
Nunguesser, Guillory and Young are Republicans. Holden is a Democrat.
Several others are also considering joining the race.
