Congressman Steve Scalise is hosting a job fair for military veterans in Slidell on Saturday.
The event will be held at Salmen High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Scalise says representatives of over 30 companies will be on hand to accept applications.
"If you look at the unemployment numbers, veterans actually have a higher unemployment rate than the average of the rest of the nation. So, there's a problem for veterans who come back home a lot of times getting back into society and into the workplace," Scalise told Denny Schaffer Friday morning.
Scalise says, that based on the results of a job fair he hosted two years ago, attendees should be prepared to accept immediate offers of employment.
"We had a number of people who were offered jobs on the spot - so I would encourage any military veteran to come on out," he said.
